Job Shops Drives
Planning, Scheduling, & Tracking made easy
Diefendorf Gear Corp. is a custom gear manufacturing company founded in 1920 and based in Syracuse NY. The company specializes in custom gears of any type, Size or Material. Spurs, Helicals, Bevels, Spiral Bevels, Worms, Worm Gears & Internals. Manufactured To OEM Specifications & Prototypes. Diefendorf Gear was looking for an affordable planning and scheduling solution that quickly adapts to their needs. Working with Resource Manager and User Solutions, Diefendorf Gear initiated several feature enhancements ideas that are now available as part of standard product.

The challenges that Diefendorf ran into was that there were so many variables in how Jobs were processed, is was virtually impossible to define standard routings and process times for each job up front. Each and every day, the shop foreman would note which machines were available, what materials were on-hand, and listen to which customer was hollering the loudest to try to figure out what was to be worked on that day. Furthermore, each decision about which machine was going to work on any particular job on each day drove new requirements for the next step in the routings as some machines could perform multiple steps while other older machines could only perform one function. Still, Diefendorf needed to quote realistic promise dates, plan labor, and have an easy method to schedule and track jobs.

Resource Manager-DB allows job shops to easily and efficiently manage critical resources such as labor, materials and work centers. Based on Deifendorf’s, and other Job Shops unique requirements, the product now features on-the-fly configuration and rescheduling, allowing the user to see the benefits almost immediately, without any complicated analysis or set-ups. For the first time, Gear Manufacturer’s can leverage their intuition and knowledge combined with the familiar Microsoft OfficeTM platform to assist them in managing one or more of: capacity planning, customer orders, purchasing, delivering products and services on-time, reducing cycle times and inventory shortages, MRP and WIP, planning labor and workcenter requirements, tracking and all schedules.

Resource Manager-DB contains many advanced planning and scheduling features normally found in systems costing 10 times more.
